Believe it or not, the billionaire’s morning routine starts the night before. As it is said nothing beats preparation and it’s always great to have an early start. Billionaires follow a specific routine and yes, I am here to share that with you. The Billionaire morning routine helps you win the morning and channel your day in the right direction. This then sets the mood for the day, and you begin to win throughout the day.
This routine helps you to be proactive and not reactive in your life. It’s all about showing yourself some love and taking care of the most important person: YOU!
You have tried your own morning routine but it didn’t work, so let’s change that.
This billionaire morning routine is here to help you cultivate the billionaire in you and still get enough sleep.
After extensive research with billionaires, there is a routine that they use and that they have given us a sneak-peek into. The main point is to start your day on a positive note and carry this positive can-do attitude throughout the day. You will become more confident in how you approach your day, and I am sure the results will be worth it.
Although you won’t be a billionaire overnight like Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, at least you get to wake up like one. You will actually wonder why you didn’t try this years ago.
Ok, let’s get straight into it. Buckle up!
1. Create your tomorrow to-do list the night before, then sleep early.
The first thing that most people do not know is that the secret to a successful billionaire’s morning routine starts the night before. When we say the night before we don’t mean by setting the alarm clock which you will snooze anyway, we are talking about planning ahead.
Billionaires do not spend their night scrolling through their phones or binge-watching a series till the early hours of the morning and still wake up to be their best. They sleep early, daily. This is because if they sleep early, they get to be an early riser and I don’t have to remind you that the early bird catches the earliest worm. They use an hour before bedtime to reflect on the day that was and to gather their thoughts. By reflecting on the good, bad and what needs improvement, they plan on becoming better people the next day.
During this reflection time, they also write a to-do list for the following day. This can be continuing what was not finished today or what is next. This gives structure to the next day.
The day can get very busy, and I easily lose track of time. For me, it just takes one phone call either from work or from home and it throws me off my whole day. It could even just be a text that ruins your entire day. Sure, we cannot run away from the mishaps of life or bad news, but this is where our to-do list comes in. This list helps us focus and reminds us of our daily goals and to try to achieve them. List all the things to be down. The billionaire’s morning routine is to be as specific as possible with each item on the list. This simple act changes your whole day.
Posting two articles on my blog and doing research for the next blog topic is more specific than saying tomorrow I will work on my blog. Billionaires succeed because they have specific targets.
As a wise man once said, if you aim at nothing you will hit it all the time.
The secret here is to have two lists.
- Work to-do list – List of commitments or deliverables that you need to do as expected of you in your place of work.
- Personal to-do list – time to invest in yourself and work on the things that you love and are building towards that are outside of your work. For some, this list is called the after 5 to-do list.
Strike a balance between your work and personal to-do list.
2. Recall your dreams and ask yourself how you are feeling today.
We all want the good morning text followed by a heart emoji from a loved one to ask us how we are feeling. If we live with our partners, we expect them to ask us how we are feeling, and we usually give a cliché answer. But have you taken the time to ask yourself how am I feeling today and how did I sleep?
The Billionaire morning routine requires you to assess how you slept and how you are feeling. Believe it or not, this will have a great impact on your day. I am sometimes cranky throughout the day, and I wonder why, only to realize I didn’t sleep well.
Another part of the routine is to remember your dreams if you had any. Dreams are usually a manifestation of what we think about a lot during the day. Sometimes they are about our worst fears or our aspirations. So, if your dreams are negative you may want to challenge yourself to think positively and have happy thoughts throughout the day.
Sometimes I worry a lot about a situation I cannot change. I then dream about this situation which means I wake up stressed. So, when that happens, I challenge myself to let go of things I cannot change and focus on the ones I can change.
Recalling your dreams is a great way to interact with your subconscious thoughts.
Don’t be a thermometer that reads the temperature of the room but rather a thermostat that sets the room temperature.
3. Make your bed, tidy up your room
If I don’t make the bed the temptation to go back to bed is real. It feels as if the bed is calling my name and cannot resist. But I find that If I make my bed when I think of going back, I see how neat and clean it is and I don’t want to disturb that space. I also think if I sleep again, I will have to make the bed and nope, I am not about to spend another 10 minutes of my day making the bed.
Your organization starts by organizing your bed.
Of course, this can be a bit challenging if you have a partner. Surely you are not going to kick them out of bed so you can make the bed. Especially if they prefer to sleep in a little longer in the morning. But don’t worry. I believe in the billionaire attitude rubbing off on those around you. So when your partner sees how it’s changing your life, they will join you. Then the two of you can be a billionaire power couple with a billionaire morning routine.
Organising your bedroom means your personal life becomes organised and everything else falls into place.
4. Drink a glass of water and take your vitamins
The benefits of drinking water first thing in the morning keeps you hydrated for the rest of the day. This morning habit gives your body the essential nutrients it needs.
Why do you want to be hydrated?
- For your body to fully function it needs water. After all, 60% of your body is made up of water. I am no health expert, but I do know that our kidney needs water to clean all that waste we consume. I don’t know about you, but I would not want to walk around carrying waste, rather have water wash it out.
- Keep hydrated so you are at your best mental performance. You want to work at your best throughout the day (1)
- For students drinking water every morning helps with remembering things and paying attention (2). It has been said that humans can only concentrate for a maximum of 30min. A glass of water helps you concentrate for a little longer than this.
- Goodbye indigestion and heartburn
- Wash down that negative attitude. Being hydrated makes you happy. Can you believe it? Your mood can be changed by just one glass of water (3)
- Have you seen how irritated you get when you are constipated? That ruins your whole day. So, drinking water is the way to go to keep your metabolism going.
- Lastly, there is a certain skin glow that comes with drinking water. Your skin loves water not just from bathing but internally too. So, if there is a cheap skincare routine that will have you as a future billionaire turning heads, it’s a glass of water in your billionaire morning routine.
Billionaires stand out because they do the extraordinary things that the rest of us don’t want to do. Trust me, getting this right takes you a million steps further
5. Breathing exercises/ meditation to clear your mind
Our minds are at their purest and clearest in the morning before the busyness of life and chaos caught up with us. This is why it’s always best to meditate each morning. I always take time to meditate for at least 15 minutes each morning. This centres your brain and gathers all your thoughts. You will be a more balanced and centred person. Find a good comfortable spot in your house to sit down.
Put down a mat or a cushion and put on some soothing music and begin meditation. It will feel awkward at first but once you get the hang of it you will enjoy it. Exercise and meditation every morning are great for your mental health.
Feel free to replace mediation with yoga.
By now you are asking: at what point do I drink my cup of coffee, surely you cannot expect me to do all this without a sip of my favourite coffee?
Yes, you can do it. Remember everything is about the can-do attitude of a billionaire. Coffee will dehydrate you. The goal here is to hydrate you and keep you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day not exhausted and relying on caffeine. The good news is your body’s metabolism and immune system will love you if you drink water
Decide how you want to feel and who you want to be today.
Despite how you woke up feeling today, decide to feel happy, motivated, and driven. Whether the sun is shining or it’s a gloomy morning put on a fresh new and exciting attitude. As you think, so your day will be. Secondly, think and decide who you want to be today. This means you decide to be a supportive colleague, caring friend and positive leader. The Billionaire morning routine is all about deciding to positively affect and change lives.
Wake up each morning and accept the challenge to be the best version of yourself.
6. Replace scrolling with paging
I am guilty as charged! The first thing I grab when I wake up is my phone. Yes, sometimes it’s because I am hitting the snooze button but mostly it’s because I want to catch up with everything that I have missed while I was sleeping. I start my day scrolling through social media. This is a bad habit, and I can assure you that going through your phone is not on this billionaire morning routine. So, what will you do in that one hour that you would have spent switching between all social platforms? We have the best solution for you: reading.
And no, this is not reading eBooks or from your phone. Because let’s face it, the temptation to respond to texts and see what’s making news headlines when the phone is in your hand is irresistible. So rather read a hard copy. Make it a habit as a future billionaire to at least buy a few hardcopies that you will read each morning.
I read my bible every morning for 30 minutes and this is the best decision ever. I don’t start my day worried, anxious, angry and agitated because I read something disturbing online. However, I start it from a place of ultimate peace with my inner woman ready to tackle the day. The positive tone of the day has been set and the rest of your day is on track for success.
You can read motivation books, novels or educational books. This is an exciting way to wake your brain up and reduce your stress levels in the morning.
Start your day by learning through reading, this is the best way to start your day and it will make a big difference in how your day goes.
Warren Buffett is a big believer in reading and he believes anyone who aspires to be a successful person should focus on reading and getting more knowledge by reading.
7. Exercise
For the fitness fanatics out there, this step is really easy to follow but for me, this was the hardest. I mean it’s not easy going for a run at 5 am. It was hard, I mean whose energy levels are that high in the morning. But once it became a habit, I looked forward to my morning runs and my physical health improved.
The streets are clean and empty except for a few fellow billionaires who are jogging and who know that exercise in the morning is the ultimate and only way to start your day. If you have a gym membership, go there early before everyone else wakes up. Have a gym plan that you follow and have the best time at the gym. For those of us who enjoy exercising in our own home, we can alternate between jogging and other exercises daily. Going on a healthy diet without regular exercise is a futile endeavor.
By the time the rest of the world is awake, billionaires and future billionaires like you and I have done so much already during the early hours of their morning. Use this billionaire’s morning routine to be a better person. I recommend you start by doing one step consistently for a week. Then add the second step in two weeks. Trust me it’s easy to do it one at a time otherwise you become overwhelmed and quit halfway. The first time you try it will be hard but don’t give up
This morning routine is great as it makes sure you stay in good health. It gives you a good reason to wake up early and to plan to have a productive day without losing any hours of sleep.
Challenge yourself to do this daily morning routine consistently for a month. The important thing with every new routine is consistency.
Remember excellence is key in everything you day. Go ahead and start this life-changing billionaire’s morning routine. Start your day with good habits like a lot of successful people with a high net worth do.
If you enjoyed this, don’t be stingy, share it with a friend and help keep each other accountable in this daily routine during the difficult winter and the easy summer months. The only thing better than being a billionaire is being friends with a billionaire too!!
