Sometimes we go through so much pain and suffering that we have to heal. Most hurtful situations usually eat away at any little self-love we may have.
None of us is spared the painful jabs that life gives us, but we each have a responsibility to heal and love ourselves again. Although this is a cross that we each have to carry it is always better to know that we are not alone.
We have our family and friends as support structures, but above all we have God. And once you know you have God and that he has got your back you know you are all sorted.
But it doesn’t stop there. Most of us do not love ourselves. This is clear in the self-sabotaging that we do. It shows its ugly head in the unkind words we say to ourselves and the thoughts we think about ourselves.
It’s all the childhood and adulthood traumas that we have not dealt with that may cause us to think we are not worthy of other people’s love and our own love.
More often than not, the people who struggle to love themselves usually go overboard with loving other people. It’s ironic how these people will do anything for their close friends, family, and even a stranger but will never think about showing themselves, love.
Unfortunately, after God’s love for you, the second most important love is not of your family/ partner, it’s the love you have for yourself.
And it’s only when you love yourself unconditionally that you begin to realize that all the tender love and care that you give others has to be done for you too. If anything, you have been giving it out it’s time to give it to yourself.
We think loving others is hard because they are impossible to live with, but the hardest part is actually loving ourselves.
This piece will help you say a prayer for self-love and healing because we need God to help us.
Why do we struggle with self-love?
It is hard to love our friends, it is harder to love family, but hardest to love ourselves. So, let’s explore why it’s hard to love ourselves but easy to love others.
1. We know our faults and weaknesses
The only person who knows our deepest and darkest struggles is us. That’s why it’s so difficult to love ourselves. We know our worst side and that is a side we rather keep hidden and do not want the world to know. It is difficult to love something broken, imperfect, and characterized by cracks and faults.
So, it’s understandable how you struggle to love yourself unconditionally. Others may have fallen in love with the Angel that they see you to be, and some people may love and accept your faults but you yourself may struggle.
It’s one of the reasons why some people look in the mirror and see things about themselves that the rest of us do not see. Most of these things are negative.
We see the good works of others, but not ourselves. We appreciate, love, and praise others and we help them get up when they fall, and we motivate them when they doubt themselves and need an extra push.
But we never do this for ourselves because our faults and weaknesses put a veil over our eyes.
2. We are still holding on to past hurt and pain.
Pain and hurt change you and your perspective on life. This change can be positive or negative or both. If the change is negative, it could be that it affects your ability to love yourself.
It’s only when we let go or find a way to live through and with the pain that we begin to heal and love ourselves again. As a young adult or an older person, it’s important to find a way to push through the pain. The only way I have found that works is through the creator of the universe, God.
3. We think we do not deserve the unconditional love that we give others
The conversation around being worthy is important. Although we think it has been exhausted, why is it still hard to believe that we deserve all the love, attention, trust, support, gifts, and motivation that we give to others?
We owe it to our emotional health to love ourselves unconditionally. You are worthy of love just as much as the next person.
Do not allow low self-esteem to convince you otherwise.
If anything, you need to have special self-love rituals that you only do for yourself and not others. This unique way of loving yourself should be second nature to you. It’s the best way to heal from anything holding you back.
Remember only when the love for yourself is overflowing will you be able to pour out that love to other people.
4. We think we are FINE
How many of us do not even think about the question: Do I love myself? How do I know that I love myself and how do I show myself that I am the Queen or the King of my heart?
Almost never, right?
Why?
Although there is no one answer I think it’s because we think we are fine, and we think we are doing okay. We think because we have good health and no stress that everything is fine, and we don’t have things that we need to heal from.
Well, that could not be further from the truth.
It’s likely the calm before the storm because we have subconsciously managed to suppress our pain and hurt to the back of our minds. It does not mean it’s not there, it means it is laying dormant but has the potential to resurface twice as strongly.
Do not convince yourself you are FINE, you need self-love.
Before you say a prayer for self-love and healing make sure that you are honest about your true feelings and emotions.
5. What will other people say?
Some of us know we need to love ourselves and we know what we have to do to show ourselves some TLC (Tender Love & Care), but we do not do it because we are worried about people’s opinions.
What will they say if I take myself to a spa for a day? What will they say if I dress up and go out alone for a quiet dinner at my favorite restaurant? How will they react if I start talking positively about myself and loving myself loudly and unconditionally?
How will my best friend react if he/ she starts to notice that I don’t have negative thoughts and that I am going through the healing process slowly but surely? Will I lose friends or gain better friends?
As you say a prayer for self-love and healing, remember that it does not matter what people say but only what God says.
These are just a few reasons why we struggle with loving ourselves, so let’s move on to say a prayer for self-love and healing.
Why we should pray
As Christians, one of the most powerful weapons we have is Prayer. The Christian battle is won on our knees. That’s why we have to start by praying when we talk about healing. We need to ask God to help us love ourselves.
When we pray, we need to proclaim God’s word because it is a double-edged sword. Beginning today, instead of merely going through life aimlessly, go through life with intention.
Use the powerful word of God to remind yourself that God loves you and you need to have unfailing love for yourself.
I must also say that we all want to pray, and we love prayer, but sometimes it’s difficult to pray. We are in too much pain to be able to utter a single word to God, Like Hannah praying to God. She was in so much pain her words were just groans and moans. If this is you, use these simple prayers to help you.
Remember that God hears us when we pray and when we speak. The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf when we cannot speak.
Prayer for self-love and healing
First prayer for self-love and healing
My dear heavenly father, you have loved me unconditionally since I was conceived in my mother’s love. Remind me of your love every day. Thank you for orchestrating every detail and event of my life to this day. Nothing has surprised and nothing will surprise you.
I believe you are doing a new thing in me, through and with me. I thank you for the new beginning that is coming.
Thank you that you told me that your thoughts are above my thoughts. Help me to align my thoughts with yours
I pray for this in Christ Jesus’ name, Amen.
Second prayer for self-love and healing
Dear God, I am in pain Lord!
It hurts.
My entire being cannot bear this pain and I am not sure I can go through this. I am exhausted and I have no strength and energy to continue.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
Third prayer for self-love and healing
Father, I am on my knees before you.
I am struggling to love myself. I know that the death of your son on the cross is a clear and unwavering declaration of your unconditional love for me. But I do not know how to love myself.
Help me to see myself the way you see me and to love myself with the same love that you have for me. Help me to forgive myself and to accept that you have made me in your image. I know that the work you are doing in me is continuous and it will be completed when you come back.
Work in me and create in me a new creation. I have been hurt and wounded. I carry a lot of pain and some of it is hidden. Please show me all the areas that I need to focus on. Unearth my hidden fears and pain. I know that going through this healing process will be painful but as long as You are with me, all is well.
Holy Spirit, please comfort me and give me the strength I need to heal and love myself.
God, I love you
In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.
Use a Gratitude Journal / Mindfulness Journal
One of the most powerful tools to use after prayer is to practice gratefulness. Self-love is all about daily mindfulness. Wake up in the morning and look at the life that God has given you. Write down all the things and people you are grateful for. Reflect on your day just before bedtime and write down all the amazing things God has done for you daily.
You can use this simplified Gratitude Journal and Mindfulness Journal.

The power of self-love
When I understood the power of my self-love, I was able to show myself, true love. I realized I had better health and that my emotional pain was being dealt with. I noticed that self-love exposed damaged areas that I didn’t know I have.
For a long time, I thought I had processed my past traumas, but during my self-care routine God opened up areas that needed the TLC.
You are a special person, worthy of your love. You deserve good things, so allow yourself to give yourself good things and unfailing love. The power of self-love is unmatched, it makes you a better person. Show yourself such intense self-love that people think you have a new skincare routine because of the glow on your face and the spring in your step.
Do not wait for the right time to show yourself loving care, start today. Pray these prayers with a pure heart and take the time to take care of your inward parts. You are the child of God, and he has loved you with perfect love. Therefore, take the time to love yourself with the same kind of love
God has healed you and he is continuing to heal you, but you need to also allow yourself to heal. Let your whole being feel the love of God and your love. God loves you but also tell yourself that you love yourself.
Show yourself some love too.
If you want to live a happy life with complete peace through Christ Jesus, you have to practice the prayer for self-love and healing.
